As of April 3rd, 2023, over 417 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced to their respective states' legislatures. These bills are all intent on furthering the dehumanization and disempowerment of the LGBTQ+ community. A beautiful and vibrant community consistently having to fight to be seen, heard, and loved fully just as they are.
Ruth's life inspired a community, so when a 15-year-old child was rejected after coming out to his family, a community of LGBTQ+ elders rallied together to ensure the child and others like him had resources they needed to heal and succeed.
Their sense of community brought the Ruth Ellis Center into existence and Ruth Ellis's legacy guides all the work we've done since 1999, ensuring safe housing options, and providing integrated health and behavioral health care, a place of acceptance and love, and an entire department dedicated to creating a world where LGBTQ youth can be safe and supported in all systems of care.
